Joe and I met in high school when he was a senior (17) and I was a sophomore (15) at good ol' Weber High School. His sister, Karalee, was one of my Young Women leaders at the time and, due to the lack of Young Men in our ward, invited her younger brother to a mutual activity one night. It was a dancing activity and throughout the night Joe and I had an opportunity to dance and introduce ourselves. We found that we had classes together and were able to see each other on a regular basis at school. This was a start of a great friendship! That year, we enjoyed walking each other to classes, laughing together at the lunch table, and making memories in our Spanish class.
After he graduated we both began to fall for each other as we dated for the year prior to him going on his mission. But on August 19, 2009, Joe left his home in North Ogden to serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Lima Peru North Mission. He served there for two years, touching the lives of many with his service. During this time, I graduated from high school and continued my education at Brigham Young University. The two of us exchanged letters weekly and remained the best of friends as we shared stories and experiences with each other.
Joe returned from Peru on August 23, 2011. Having the two of us reunited was awesome and we didn't waste a minute! We enjoyed every day we could together and relied on telephone calls or "skype dates" when we could not. The two of us got to know each other again and quickly fell in love.
On November 23, 2011-- exactly three months after Joe's return from Peru-- Joe proposed! We will be getting married in the Salt Lake City Temple on May 11, 2012! We are both excited for all the adventures that await us in our future together, so let the fun begin!
